Matt Barnes obtained his Bachelor of Honors Psychology degree (2008) from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Masters of Social Work degree (2011) from the University of Windsor. He is a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the Ontario Association of Social Workers. Matt is also a Professional Member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA) and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
Matt provides individual, couples and family counselling. He works with youth and adults impacted by trauma, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, sports related issues, stress and a variety of cognitive, behavioral and social issues.
Additionally, Matt is a certified EMDR therapist through the EMDR International Association. Matt’s training and education also includes crisis intervention models including: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) Managing Aggressive Behaviours (UMAB, PMAB), and Critical Incident Group Debriefing (CIGD). Matt has also been trained in Gottman’s Method for couples, Emotion Focused Therapy Level 1, 2 & 3, Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples, Emotion Focused Mindfulness Therapy as well as a variety of training in the areas of grief/bereavement, trauma, dissociation, depression and anxiety. Matt utilizes an eclectic approach with his clients with a primary focus on Emotion Focused Therapy, EMDR Therapy and Mental Skills Training.
