Telemental Health

Telemental health is a specific form of telemedicine. Telemedicine comes from the greek word "tele" (distance) and the latin word "mederi" (to heal); healing from a distance. Telemental health at Southwest Counselling Services includes all therapeutic activities that are not delivered in person, such as those provided via email, the telephone, text message, instant messaging, and videoconferencing. It is likely that you have been benefiting from telemental health services for quite some time already, perhaps without even realizing it.

Is It Effective?

Yes. Telemental health services are an evidence-based mode of service delivery that is appropriate for many people. They are a valid and reliable method of assessing and treating many common concerns identified by our clients, and they deliver similar or identical outcomes to in-person services in many cases. Research on telemental health service delivery has focused on many different populations and problems, so if your therapist determines that these are a good fit for you, you can have confidence that this decision is backed by science.

We want to assure you to that a wide body of research shows that strong working relationships form when telemental health services are used. More importantly, there seems to be no measurable difference in the quality of this relationship compared to face to face service delivery.
